those of you who turned out for wagtail, thanks, a great weekend…
…with possibly the fewest b*ll*ckings for a good few meetings, (although needed a quite word in chris’s ear a couple of times, that accelerator needs some lubricating, it kept getting stuck open!!) not sure if the road to the site is a classified or private road, maybe worth checking for next time (insurance claims??????). maybe partly to blame for not checking that with the farmer, (even i don’t get everything right, as the photos will prove!!). enough was taken to cover the site rental fee, plus the msa fees and other costs, so as they say just enough is enough!! those of you who didn’t come for fear of the site being crap, well you missed a good weekend on a great site!! the atmosphere for the whole weekend, both during driving hours and after into the night was fantastic. as the beer flowed and stories we’re swapped by the lantern light, most of us sat around nigels trailer looking at photos of the day (and previous events) on shreks laptop. the weather held off and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it!
the smiles on the faces of those who did attend proved it was worth the risk of ‘booking blind’, and now we’ve used it once, this site will be added into our fixtures list. thanks to those the guys who went down with difflock for a pay and play weekend for the info on the site, and for persuading me to give it a try, gold star for you boys!!
the site itself had several very good sections that were spread across a larger area than we’re used to, but having said that it would be near perfect for a proper set out navigational weekend with trial sections and punches (maybe with a good turnout even prizes, who knows?!). i’ll be googling the entire site over the coming weeks and will look at that for next time.
piccies from the weekend will soon be appearing in the gallery. i’m sure there will be a few of me stuck in my shogun, being pulled out by 15 year old jack smith, and then eventually shrek. yes i got stuck!! but having seen what was down the embankment to the side of me (lots of barbed wire, tree trunks etc etc) i was not about about to give my truck a hard boot and risk a very large bill for bodywork! a bit of humiliation from time to time doesn’t do anyone any harm, gave every one a good laugh at my expense and is a hell of a lot cheaper! i’m sure you all follow the links to pictures and videos as they appear!!
if me getting stuck wasn’t funny enough, having to call shrek (who marshalled on sunday, and may i say did a very good job!) on the radio to come and escort 3 camels (yes you read it right, camels!) through part of the site was possibly the highlight of my weekend! the conversation went something like this:
t : trev to shrek, can you return to signing on please and escort 3 camels through this field
s : shrek to trev, i know its my first time marshalling, stop taking the p**s!
t: i’m not, i need you to escort these camels so no one pops out of a hedge and spooks them
s: trev, pack it in, stop winding me up!!
t: shrek this is not a wind up, get your ar*e up here pronto!
s: give over trev….
and then someone else comes over the radio, “trev have you seen these camels? what do we do about them?”
the look on shreks face when he (eventually) came over was hilarious!!
who’d have ever thought you’d drive round a 4×4 course and see 3 camels being lead walked? not me, everyone was surprised, bemused and amazed to see them! it brings to mind chris and nigels little 2 piece conversation about rubber welding and flux balls!! you had to be there to appreciate it!
next time out is at kirton lindsay on november 17 - 18, and will be a non msa meeting (although this site does not allow quads). the turn out here should be good, as many people have said there coming. this one will be £25 per day for members, £30 for non members. up to now the interest generated is creating a buzz in the club so hopefully we’ll have a very good turnout. if the numbers are right we’ll be allowed back for exclusive club use, so please get around those who aren’t sure and change their minds. it will definately be worth it!!
on a sad note, those of you who aren’t aware, club scrutineer jim waite has stepped down with immediate effect. jim and i had a good talk on sunday and i understand his position and reasons, which proved to be difficult for him, and would like to thank him for the last almost 6 years hard work he has put into scrutineering at msa events. as well as jim stepping down, jims wife carol who is the clubs child protection officer, has also offered her resignation, both of which i have accepted with great reluctance and a heavy heart. jim and carol, your input to the club has proved invaluable and has helped take the club forward, and i would like to express my personal thanks to both of you, and i’m sure everyone else feels the same. we will be calling committee meetings over the coming weeks to look at the way forward and we have a member willing to take jims role over. carol has agreed to stay in place until a new child protection officer is in place and fully registered with the msa. thank you to carol for agreeing to this. one name has been mentioned by several committee members, but this has yet to be confirmed and will be revealed after the forthcoming meetings. both jim and carol have told me that although they are stepping back from attending meetings to concentrate on personal things, and jim has sold his buggy, it is a temporary thing, and they will still come along and be part of the club at meets in the future, and they will be most welcome at each and every event.
anyway guys, i’ve worn my fingers down to the knuckle typing this lot, so i’ll close, and say a final thanks to those who did wagtail, thanks for a great weekend and see you at kirton!!
