Hello to you all,
Thanks to those of you who attended this weekend at Leek….
…and although it was a VERY muddy site, the weekend went well. Saturdays attendance was, well, poor to say the least. The day didn’t start too well when Scrutineer Gary Harrison and a Ford KA had a coming together on the single track lane upto the site, (Gary’s \Rangey faired much better strangley enough!!). Thats why when we put up signs saying slow, theirs a good reason for it!! On Sunday plenty of you came out, possibly due to the great weather, and what a good turn out it was. Firstly those who marshalled, thanks for all your hard work! Plenty of recovery due to the condition of the site kept you busy all day, but you helped when ever and where ever you were needed, (and also a few who came to participate assisted with recovery) and I would like to thank you for your hard work and help. This club has a camaraderie that many other clubs simply don’t have, and I am proud of the way everyone pulls together, has a good laugh and gets along with each other.
The event itself went as well as could be expected. 10 punches were placed around the site for the treasure hunt, and it generated some healthy competition amongst everyone. At one point 5 members were very close to each other, with all requiring 1 or 2 punches to win. Eventual winner Paul Dumolo came in at 12.15pm with all 10 punches stamped on his cards. Congratulations to Paul, who won his prize money in record time!
The 3 trial sections also went well, with almost everyone completing them at some point throughout the day. Section 3 became the focus for a couple of hours entertainment as we chose this one to compete against the clock. The section was first completed in a respectable time of 32 seconds by Shrek, but this was quickly attacked and cut down to 26 seconds. Darren Price in his modded G Wagon, Alex Wilson in his modded 90, Trevor Sisson in his Wrangler, Shrek in his road standard Trooper, Brian McIvor (Scotty) in his modded 90, Julian Wright in his (soon to be very wrecked!) Disco and eventual winner Paul Dumolo in his modded 90. All tried their best to outdo each other, which was most amusing to watch. However, their is always only 1 winner, and Paul Dumolo attacked the course and came through in a blistering time of 23 seconds. However my prize for sheer determination has to go to Shrek, who competed in a standard diesel Trooper (other than dumper tyres!), and set a very respectable 26 seconds in the early stages, beating amongst others Daz in his G wagon (sorry Daz, it had to mentioned!!). Sadly once the big tyred guys had been through a few more times, Shrek couldn’t quite manage the tyre ruts, so had to pull out, but 10 out of 10 to him for his effort! I also have to mention Byron, who it seems must have ran a marathon between start and finish lines with his stopwatch, next time though perhaps we should use the 2 way radios mate!!
Thankfully we had no injuries, which is always a relief!! However more than a few vehicles became casualties to the site, some more that others (much more!) Phil Hill’s Suzuki became lighter as the weekend progressed, with more bits missing each time I saw it! Day pass driver Julian Wright started the day in a reasonable good condition Disco, and finished with it ready to scrap! Paul Seddon had a very close call with an end over end roll in one of the gully’s, which could have proved much more serious. Thankfully it didn’t and although it may have caused considerable damage to his Toyota pickup (and a much bigger dent to his pride), ours and The Motor Sports Association’s insistance on seat belts at all times has once again proved that safety must and does always come first.
Finally welcome to new members Mark Whetton and Michael Hudson, 2 more like minded mud nutters who have joined our ranks. We look forward to seeing you guys at our future events.
Our next outing is at Wagtail over the weekend of March 8 - 9, which although a good run out, is an excellent site. Please contact Club Secretary Trevor Harrison if intend to come to this event, so that we can work out how many sections to set out. PLEASE MAKE THIS A GOOD TURNOUT, its well worth the journey. The site has a flat camping area, toilet facilities, and boasts a vehicle see-saw, which I’m sure will provide some entertainment for quite a few of you. For directions to this site please look at the 2008 Events section with this website.
If you have any photos from this event please post them on the club website, or email them to Club Secretary Trevor Harrison and he’ll do it for you. Members feel free to post items for sale on the club website in the ‘Club Matters’ or ‘Stuff’ sections, or again send details to Trevor and he’ll put them on for you.

To all those of you who think off roading is expensive think again and read this.
i purchaced a 2.8 turbo diesel isuzu troper for £150, i played all weekend and by christ i gave it some welly. i did the time trial and went down every gully there was. i was buzzing my little tits off all weekend. i loaded it up to come away and it blew up. i scrapped it today and got £185 10 gallon of diesel a good battry and a cd player. so that will go towards car number 37.
but joking apart the weekend was fantastic apart from 1st thing sunday morning when i felt as rough as a badgers arse, due to the owner having a fridge full of john smiths (now the fridge is empty) the best bit was the time trial and i actually beat the big G. a big thanks to daz who spent most weekend attached to me via a rope. the atmosphere was grrrrrrrreat. it was also nice to see pete and BIG BOB attending. and phill hills car now weighs the same as a tin of empty beans. i think phill enjoyed it his car went really well, it will be nice if he finishes his bob tail rangey for the next meeting ( come on phill ) also a big thanks to everyboby else who attended. and to those of you you who could not be botherd to support us you lost out big time on tis one. see u all at wagtail in buggy no 37.
