Well, what can I say about this weekend. OK, good, great? Well none of these touch it! This site is without doubt FANTASTIC!

Although somewhat cold on Saturday , and bl**dy freezing and wet on Sunday, the smiles on the faces of those returning to the signing on point, and asking “‘where ARE those punches hidden?”, as they poured yet another warming drink over their blue lips, tells me that this club has more life in it than Superman. Although another fairly long trip for almost all of us, and with it being close to Christmas we had one of the best turn outs this year. For that I would like to say a BIG Thank You to all of you who attended on such a miserable weekend, and I take my hat off to those of you who decided to sleep over, especially the Burton Boys and Ako who also slept over on Friday!

Those of you who had said you would come, and didn’t, I can only say that you missed one hell of a weekend. Unfortuantely for at least a few of you that couldn’t make it, I for one understand personal circumstances such as family,  health and work commitments, have to come first, and in those cases rightly so. For those who just couldn’t be bothered, it was your loss!

The weekend itself was thankfully injury free, although I do think hyperthermia was starting to creep in for a few (especially Shrek!) I think he misunderstood when I said a snorkel would be a good idea and fitted periscope instead!

This site has more than most to throw at even the most experienced drivers with the best prepared vehicles, and the vehicle breakages came fairly regularly throughout the weekend (unfortunately for some a bit more than others!). The eagerly awaited outing of Daz’s recently converted caged up truck cab G Wagon was well worth the wait and he had a grin bigger than a chesire cat for most of the weekend (except when my radio kept going!!) Saturday saw at least 2 vehicles do double plus roll overs, and the tightening of scrutineering to ensure better work on cages and hoops has once again proved that safety MUST (and does) come first! Both vehicles suffered nothing more than cosmetic damage, and may now be consigned to future buggy conversions, with the drivers thankfully suffering nothing more than brusied egos!

The rain came down relentlessly on Sunday (rightly predicted by Chris!) and as the day progressed, and the cold set in, the free hot drinks and chilli (you didn’t see the chilli?!? you have to be quick when that comes out!) went down well with everyone. I’m sure you all thawed out in a nice hot bath on Sunday night with a big smile on your faces!

I would also like to say welcome to Spondon Off Road Club to Richard Powell, Richard Comley, Paul Seddon, Eron Baxter and Andrew and Gemma Brereton (another 6 mud nutters), we look forward to swapping stories at future events!

Well once again its time to close, and I wait with eager anticipation at the photos soon to appear on the site from this weekend. THANKS AGAIN TO THOSE WHO CAME AND MADE A GREAT WEEKEND, WE COULDN’T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU,  and we’ll certainly look at rebooking this site for next year. Finally thanks to all those who wore official badges this weekend for being my eyes and ears yet again, we pulled it off, and even I had my doubts we could on such an enormous site!!

With very best regards to you all,

TREVOR HARRISON, CLUB SECRETARY
