Chaps we’ve yet to speak to Bill (the landowner) but I’m hearing some fairly heavy rumours that there’s been a conflict of interests between the footpath walkers and offroad club use?!
This is or would be a major loss to all the different clubs that use the site, as soon as we know more and can confirm/ explain what’s gone off we’ll let everyone know.
I’ve got a feeling we’ve lost the place so watch this space as they say . Cheers Chris.

It may be because a croud of 24 ramblers fell into a hole that was made by a rather large scammell and they have not been seen since.

That’s not good news at all.
Is there no way to fence the 2 areas off?
I don’t remember us ever having an issue with walkers on the land, but thats maybe the lengths Trev goes to with notices etc.
We need to push this with the landowner, I can understand his nervousness if there has been a problem, but I believe that the insurance we have from MSA will put the responsibility back to us as a club, which is actually what we want.
If any landowners think that they are taking a liability risk with off road use we will lose all land.
This sport is depressing sometimes. I’m sick of feeling like a pariah.

Don’t landowners get some form of subsidy from the government for the upkeep of public rights of way which cross their land?
If true then there’s the conflict of interests as I reckon a rambler may well have slipped and fell in a wheel rut which shouldn’t be on the footpath?
I’ve often seen walkers passing thro’ at Shottle and most took time to stop and watch and have a chat with us but I’ve also met some complete and utter wa_kers who just moan and complain.

I have been told the land owner had to many meetings in a year. the rambler who reported him was not even on his land he was walking past on the public road. Then the rambler kicked up a fuss to every top man in the phone book hence the problem.
This info came from a member of central off road who help a lot with shottle. so i cannot guarantee it is the whole true story, but i have been told this by 3 seperate people. It would be nice to hear it straight from the horses mouth. And it will be a bloody big shame if it is all true. So here`s hoping it is untrue.
