2008 Events Calendar

Please take a look at 2008 events to keep up to date with events for next year…

Each event will have any relevant site information and directions listed.

Unless stated otherwise fees for each event will be as follows:
Members £15 per driver per day.
Non Members £25 per driver per day.
Camping fees are included unless stated otherwise.

Please post a reply if you have any queries regarding any event.

Resize Pictures

if you want to add your pictures to your articles and galleries, its best if they are no larger than 800 x 600 pixels.

To resize pictures for the site, a good program for doing this is BIMPlite.

You can download the program from here, and best of all it’s free.

Writing an article

To write an article on the new system is pretty easy.

Once you have logged in, from the link on the right hand side…

the system presents a dashboard to you, you need to go to write post.

From this page, you can now write out the article,

and use the upload manager to add any files or images that you want to. Click upload, choose your file, then hit upload again. Adding some titles and descriptions to the pictures that you upload is a good idea too.

The best size for pictures on the site is 800×600 pixels. (the width should be a max of 800 pixels). This means that we wont top up the site with pictures, and that they will load quickly into the page.

A good free program for image manipulation is GIMP 2 along with Davids Batch processor for processing many pictures at once.

Once the article has been written, choose a category from the right hand side, and then hit publish.

How do I join the site?

Joining the new site is pretty easy.
To be able to add articles and pictures you need to prove that you are genuine member of the club, if you add a comment to the end of this post then we can verify your email addresss and then add you as a user.

We are screening registrations to try and stop the porn peddlers from swamping the site.

It should not take long to verify you as a member, so please be patient. You can make yourself a member of the forums by validating your email address.

Scrutineering Requirements

Scrutineering takes place at all of our events, and we require that your vehicle meets at least the following:

Drivers of vehicles without screens are required to have suitable eye protection (safety glasses / goggles etc) **NO EYE PROTECTION , NO DRIVING**

Front and rear tow points (suitable for removing a stuck vehicle, factory fitted tow points are not always that robust and may require upgrading)
Secure battery
Firm brake pedal
Working handbrake
Seat belts for all passengers, (no seat belt – no passenger, and no passengers on back of pick ups etc at any time!)
Secure fuel tank
Sealed fuel cap
Working horn
Working brake light
No loose items in / on vehicle ( i.e. spare tyres, wheel braces, jacks, tool boxes et
c. must be strapped down securely)
Fire extinguisher, must be within reach of the driver when wearing seatbelt, also must be in date and not fastened with cable ties!
Own suitable towrope, with shackles

Roll cage (if fitted) needs to be to chassis at a minimum of 6 points

Quad bikes are allowed at some events (event will list quads if allowed). All quad riders require full safety gear, including eye protection and helmet, arrive without these items and you will NOT be permitted to ride.

Normal driving times at all events are 10am until 4pm. We would ask that, as membership numbers have increased, you try to arrive earlier to allow scrutineering to be carried out before driving commences. A drivers briefing will be held prior to commencement of driving on each day. We appreciate that not everyone can arrive this early, so please be aware that you may have a short wait when you arrive before scrutineering of your vehicle is carried out, and your safety brief is given.

Vehicle Recovery

Please make sure that front and rear towing points on vehicles are adequate enough to enable recovery to take place safely. Many members are relying on factory fitted towing eyes and we have found that, particularly with the smaller vehicles, e.g. Suzuki’s, these are proving not to be anywhere near strong enough for winching off when these vehicles are bogged down. The dangers from snapping ropes / cables to drivers and club officials who are assisting in winching these vehicles, as well as those people who are in the immediate area spectating, is obvious. Whilst watching vehicles being recovered can be as much fun as driving at times, please ensure a ‘safe zone’ is observed between both vehicles at all times.

The club has purchased a number of winch blankets for use by officials who are requested to assist with the recovery of stuck / broken down vehicles. These are carried on marshalls vehicles equipped with winches and are to be used at all times when winching is required. A spare blanket will be available at the signing on point for those without one. Those members who have winches fitted will also be required to have a winch blanket as part of the vehicles equipment, which must be used when winches are deployed. We also advise that suitable gloves (ideally leather) should be worn when handling winch cables or ropes.

Refuelling Area

Please ensure that you use the dedicated refuelling area that is available at each event. This is for the safety of everyone, and we would also ask that all signs are observed, particularly ‘No Smoking’ whilst handling fuel! It would be preferable to have a second person available to stand by with a fire extinguisher whilst refuelling. If you attend an event alone, please ask a marshall to assist you. Obviously, if you run out of fuel on the driving course, you will have either have to refuel there, or be towed by a marshall’s vehicle. Please ask for assistance if you unsure what to do in the event of this happening.

Children at Events

Whilst children are welcome at all our events, please be aware that vehicle movements could present a danger to them. We would advise that members’ children wear fluorescent / safety bibs at all times when at events. Orange bibs are available from Club Secretary Trevor Harrison for £3 each. A limited number are taken to events, so please get in touch if you require one. This enables children to be seen clearly by drivers therefore reducing the risk of an accident. We would again remind parents that the safety of children is their responsibility at all times at events.

Minimum Driving Age

With the change to the permits that we now have to apply fo,r the minimum age for driving is now 14. However, parental consent is required and a form MUST be signed at the signing on point. Should another person be asked to accompany your child in a vehicle you MUST advise the Event Stewards (usually Trevor Harrison or Darren Price) of this change before driving, and sign accordingly. They will radio all site marshall’s to notify this change. Any person accompanying an underage driver must hold a valid driving licence. All other site rules will apply.
