Spondon & District Off Road Club has been invited by Total Off Road Magazine to put a team of 2 drivers into the first ‘Battle Of The Clubs’, from a short list of just 15 clubs from across the UK!. Clerk Of The Course Chris Shaw* and Chief Marhsall Byron Mellors have been asked to represent the club in a ‘drive off’.
(*NOTE: Due to personal reasons, Chris Shaw will not be participating, and will be replaced by Club Treasurer Darren Price)
The competition will consist of 2 two hour tournaments, in the morning and afternoon of the show, and in order to keep things fair, all drivers will use the same vehicle. The competition will see all drivers compete against each other in a 4×4 on a purpose built see-saw, the winner balancing the vehicle for the longest time.
If you’re intending to go along to this years event, and will be there to see the ‘see-saw’ tournament, look out for Daz and Byron and show your support for them. GOOD LUCK GUYS!!
Tickets for the show are £10 on the door or pre-order tickets online for £7.50 each at www.britishindoor4x4show.com
See you at the British Indoor 4×4 Show on Sunday 22nd February.

Dear all,
I am letting you know that Carol Waite, our ex Child Protection Officer and wife of previous club scrutineer Jim Waite, is currently in hospital recovering from major surgery to correct a massive brain aneurysm. I have spoken with Jim today (Wednesday 10th December) who tells me that Carol has undergone surgery and is conscious and back on the ward and is now on the road to recovery. Carol will be in hospital for a while, and it would appreciated if club members could post a message of support for Carol and Jim on the website.
If anyone wants to contact Jim direct and does not have a number for him, contact me and I will give it to you, it will not be posted on the website.
I have organised for a large bunch of flowers and a Get Well Soon card to be delivered to the hospital from all within the club.

To All Club Members
I have received information from a fellow club member regarding the use of Bonsall Quarry. Whilst we do not use this location as an official site for events, I am aware that many of you use this quarry for occasional play days away from club activities. Please review the following information and be aware of its implications.

Ladies and Gents,
I have upgraded both the forums and the website. I hope that you will not notice too much and that the site looks pretty much as before. Those amongst you who use the post system will notice quite a lot of change behind the scenes.
These changes were necessary as we had started to get left behind with the software that controlled the website, and cool features like the forum and shoutbox were outdated.
Some casualties that I will try to fix soon are that we have lost the “post with the most Views” section, (Chris’s buggy was winning hands down anyway) and a couple of bits behind the scenes, that I bet no one can tell me has gone anyway!
The image manager is still there, in fact one of the reasons we waited so long was until that feature was compatible with the new software.
I will make a new video showing how to use the post system soon.
I hope that you use and enjoy the site as much as before, if you have any problems, please cut and paste the address (URL) of the page you were on, and leave it in the comments to this post.
Thanks
MarkN

Many of you may be aware that the site at Shottle has been closed with immediate effect. I have been in contact with the site owner and will be having an initial meeting with him on Sunday 12 October to discuss the details of the closure and see if we can assist with helping to resolve the problem he is facing with DEFRA. I will pass on any information when i have it regarding this matter, but would inform you all that the closure has arisen as a DIRECT CONFLICT between ramblers and off road drivers. I would ask therefore that you ALL consider the implications of your actions when driving off road, be it verbally or otherwise, and remind you that ramblers have a legal right to walk across sites as much as you have a right to drive on them. PLEASE do NOT get into arguments with them, as this then gives them ammunition to contact local authorities, and will result in further site closures.

Chaps we’ve yet to speak to Bill (the landowner) but I’m hearing some fairly heavy rumours that there’s been a conflict of interests between the footpath walkers and offroad club use?!
This is or would be a major loss to all the different clubs that use the site, as soon as we know more and can confirm/ explain what’s gone off we’ll let everyone know.
I’ve got a feeling we’ve lost the place so watch this space as they say . Cheers Chris.

The format of the comp will be simple. You turn up in what ever you want and we will put you in a suitable class. Each class as a chance to win a trophy and there will be a prize for the most outstanding team weather they win a trophy or not. There will punches out on site 30 in all with diffrent grades of diffculty. You will receive a punch card that as coloured numbers on it. Each colour refers to the difficulty of the punch. E.g Red = very difficult. Green= easy. There will be at least three special stages that all vehicles can do. Steve LLoyd may also set up a couple of stages as well but that is yet to be confirmed. The emphases will be on fun and good sportsmanship. We will be at shottle for the weekend, but Saturday the marshalls and orginizers will be the only ones allowed on site for setting out and Sunday the 15th for the challenge.
SEE YOU THERE …………IF YOU DARE ????
Hi guys, take a look at the trophies and medals for shottle. If you want to take 1 of these beauties home, you gotta work for it!! These should be in the club, so make it happen!!
The team that shows the best ‘team spirit’ as judged by the event officials on the day will also win this genuine ‘Snap On’ beer fridge, (courtesy of Brian Machin from Stoke), complete with ice cold beer of course!
GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL, AND HAVE A GOOD FUN EVENT!!
